Introduction of MBBR biological fillers.
MBBR media are small plastic carriers for the Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) system. They're important as they provide a large surface area for microorganisms to form biofilms. In the reactor, the media keep circulating to efficiently decompose organic matter, making MBBR a preferred option for treating municipal and industrial wastewater.
Its characteristics are:
Large specific surface area: Usually hundreds or even thousands of square meters per cubic meter. Some efficient ones can exceed 2,000 square meters per cubic meter, offering enough space for microorganisms to attach, grow and reproduce, improving treatment efficiency.
Good hydrophilicity: Microorganisms are hydrophilic. MBBR fillers are treated or selected from certain materials to have good hydrophilicity, quickly absorbing water in sewage to create a good growth environment.
High biological activity: Features and materials on the filler surface can boost microorganism growth, metabolism and activity. For example, some add elements or substances beneficial to growth to stimulate reproduction.
Fast biofilm formation: They can form stable biofilms in a short time. Their surface structure and properties help attachment and growth, and the water and air flow in the reactor also promotes it. It generally takes several hours to several days.
Good fluidization performance: The filler's density is close to that of water. With aeration or stirring, it becomes fluidized in the reactor, fully mixing and contacting with sewage to ensure the biofilm gets enough oxygen and nutrients in time for better treatment.
Long service life: MBBR fillers have high mechanical strength and chemical stability, maintaining good performance for years or even longer under normal conditions.
